Angel Rocks, Part 1 (July 14th)

Viburnum trilobum (Highbush Cranberry, or American Cranberrybush).
Some of them were already red.
They weren't fully ripe, but I tasted one,
and it tasted like "Umeboshi", a pickled sour plum in Japan.

After camping out at the Olnes Pond Campground, we came back home once to unload what we didn't need, and then we left for Angel Rocks on Chena Hot Spring Road.
We took the loop trail around Angel Rocks.  There were lots of Vaccinium vitis-idaea var. minus (Lingonberry) covering both side of the trail.  Some of them were half red.  I wonder how long it will take for them to be ripe enough to harvest.  We couldn't pick any of those berries, but we found bunch of blueberries ready to be picked!  So, we picked some and ended up filling a 32-OZ yoghurt container.

The entrance of the trail to Angel Rocks.
They charge 5 dollars for parking.
There is a well near this sign...
The cold water was so nice after coming back from the hiking.

Saxifraga nelsoniana (Heartleaf Saxifrage).

Boschniakia rossica (Northern Groundcone).

The Chena River.
At the beginning of the trail, this river runs by the trail.

After a while, we could see Angel Rocks!

Silene menziesii (Menzies' Campion, or Menzies' Catchfly).

Silene menziesii (Menzies' Campion, or Menzies' Catchfly).

Aconitum delphiniifolium (Larkspurleaf Monkshood).
We found this species there, too.

Geocaulon lividum (Northern Bastard Toadflax, or Pumpkin Berry).

Vaccinium vitis-idaea var. minus (Lingonberry).

Vaccinium vitis-idaea var. minus (Lingonberry).

Geocaulon lividum (Northern Bastard Toadflax, or Pumpkin Berry).
This berry is pretty, but it is not worth tasting it.

Bupleurum americanum (American Thorow Wax).

After through the forest, we got to the ridge with huge rocks
and we started to enjoy the view of the mountains.

The both sides of the trail were covered
with Vaccinium vitis-idaea var. minus (Lingonberry).

We walked by these huge rocks.

An interesting mushroom
in the bush of Vaccinium vitis-idaea var. minus (Lingonberry).
At my hometown in Japan, we eat the similar kind of mushroom.
I wonder if this one is edible...

Interesting form of rocks.

Once you get to the ridge, you can enjoy the amazing view.

Aconitum delphiniifolium (Larkspurleaf Monkshood).
We found 2 plants of the albino ones!

Aconitum delphiniifolium (Larkspurleaf Monkshood).

Artemisia alaskana ( Alaskan sagebrush,
Alaskan Wormwood, or Siberian Wormwood).
